A

Prevention - approaches and activities aimed at reducing the likelihood that a disease or disorder will affect an individual, interrupting or slowing the progress of the disorder or reducing disability

Primary prevention - refers to initiatives aimed at healthy people before any risk factors emerge and is designed to prevent progression to disease

secondary prevention - is focused on disease risk factors and the early stage of disease with the intention of stopping further progression

Q

Can you explain what the data / findings are showing in key figures (e.g., Paffenberger et al.)

A

Younger people have lower risk of dying from any cause
Overall mortality rate reduced as the level of PA increased (fitter)
Lower relative risk for older ages with PA
Older people have greater benefit from increasing PA levels

Physically active people have lower risk of dying from any cause at any age (Lee & Paffanberger, 2000)
