Lecture 4 Flashcards
(19 cards)
variability of perm tooth eruption sequence
More so than deciduous dentition,
the sequence is VARIABLE
sex differences of perm tooth eruption
Girls are ahead of boys in calcification and
except for the third molars, girls are ahead of boys
by an average of 5 months in eruption
can there be difference in eruption times R vs L?
yes can differ slightyl if a lot may not be ideal
perm max eruption time in years
perm max eruption sequence
perm man eruption times
perm man eruption sequence
timing of permanent eruption
- Timing is consistent within a dentition –children who erupt any tooth early or late tend to acquire others early or late
- Both sides should erupt at the same time
- Different eruption sequences explain most frequently crowded teeth: maxillary cuspids and mandibular second bicuspids
Local influences which hasten permanent tooth
eruption
- If the primary tooth is extracted during active eruption of permanent tooth (more than 2/3 of the root formed)
what can be done here
may do extractions but R side would likely also require space maintence
Local influences which slow permanent tooth
eruption
When a primary tooth is extracted before active eruption of
permanent tooth (i.e. before root formation)
If extraction must be preformed with a perm tooth root not 2/3 formed what should you do?
space maintenence
arch width changes tied to?
The increases are tied to alveolar process growth (both dental
eruption and vertical process growth)
▪Vertical Alveolar Process Growth
▪occurs during general growth “spurts”
▪different for maxilla and mandible: divergent maxillary
process translates into more arch width growth
man teeth come in at an angle and may lose space
how can eruption increase arch width
▪ wider placement of the permanent teeth
▪ apposition of alveolar bone to support these teeth will result in increasde in arch width
Maxillary arch increases
➢increases occur during growth spurts
➢increases occur during eruption of incisors
➢large increase occurs during eruption of the cuspids
from about 8-11, avg increase of 4mm
max arch decreases?
can be some lost at 11-12, very little
when observing moderately crowded teeth, what should you do first?
trace the arch form, examine if there is space to alter intercanine/molar distance
Arch perimeter changes of Maxillary arch
variation? sexes? what limits loss?
▪ Variable (depends on pattern of tooth eruption)
▪ Not difference between sexes
▪ Factors which limit loss include greater labial angulation of incisors, greater increases in arch width and smaller leeway space
