Lecture 5 Flashcards
what is motor development?
development of motor performance across the lifespan
changes in motor coordination across the entire lifespan
what is motor performance?
coordination - the ability to manipulate the body in space
what are the two aspects of learning to move?
- fundamental motor skills which include - stability, object control and locomotor
- Physical fitness which include health related fitness, performance related fitness
when does the heart move in a foetus?
around 4 weeks
what are some chemicals which would slow down a babies movement in the stomach
smoking, alcohol etc
what is the more active sex as a foetus?
males
when does foetal motor activity peak?
20 weeks then starts to decline as baby takes up more room in womb
what are two developmental assessment approaches?
end-product score
process score
what is an end product score
end product is the end product - eg. how far a ball was thrown or the speed it was thrown
what is a process score? and what is the advantage & disadvantage?
it is an assessment on how a skill was performed.
advantage - determines a “why”
disadvantage -relies on the skill of an observer
what is a step defined as?
step is when a foot hits the ground until the other foot hits the ground (look at kinematic gait diagram)
what is a stride?
a stride is from when the foot hits the ground until the same foot hits the ground again
what are the uses of a TGMD-2 test?
- identify/screen for coordination difficulties
- assess progress
- plan a program for improving
