(7 cards)
motivation
examines hoe biological, psychological and environmental factors contribute to drive individuals to act and persist in goal-directed behaviour.
certain human behaviours are innate and biologically driven, and that these instincts motivate individuals to act in specific ways
biological - instinct
individuals are more motivated to act to reduce internal tensions caused by unmet biological needs, aiming to restore a state of equilibrium
biological - drive reduction
people are driven to maintain an optimal level of physiological arousal, seeking activities to increase or decrease arousal
biological - arousal
suggests that individuals are motivated to maximise external positive incentives and minimise external negative incentives
behavioural - incentive
individual has a hierarchical set of needs that progress from basic needs to psychological needs to self-actualisation and that these needs will motivate related behaviours.
humanistic - need
believe they can do something and the degreed to which they are open to internal and external incentives.
cognitive - intrinsic/extrinsic
