What are monodenate ligands?
bind to a metal ion through only one ion
What are mutlidenate or chelating ligands?
bind to a metal ion through more than one ligand atome
How does EDTA interact?
it has a 1:1 interaction with a metal ion, it has 6 protons, and 2 can be removed from nitrogens and 4 can be removed from oxygens
What is the formation constant?
the equilibrium constant for a metal-ligand reaction, the higher the charge on the metal the higher the formation constant will be
What is an auxiliary complexing agent?
it is a ligand that binds to the metal strongly enough to prevent metal hydroxides from precipitating
What is different about the titrations with EDTA before equivalence point
to calculate the pCa+ it is log -[Ca2+] before equivalence point
What is the difference about titrations with EDTA at equivalence point
The concentration of the ion is now in CaY2- so its concentration of the ion times the dilution factor that equals the initial concentration
what is the difference about titrations with EDTA after equivalence point?
you find the concentration of EDTA by multiplying the concentration by the dilution factor (volume of excess EDTA over total volume) and you find the volume of Cay2-
