LECTURE - 9 Flashcards
(17 cards)
give some description about frogs skin
- NO SCALES
- MOIST and has MUCUS.
- absorbs water through skin
describe frogs eyes?
simple eye (single lens)
bulged and located in orbit of the skull.
what covers frog eyes? and whats it function?
NICTITATING MEMBRANE.
and it protects the eye under water
where is the location of tympannum?
it is near the eye.
what is tympannum?
it is a membranous fold, that collect sound vibration
location of nostrils in frogs
above mouth
difference between forelimbs and hindlimbs in frogs?
FORELIMBS
- four digits
- less muscular
HINDLIMBS
- five digits
- more muscular and larger compared to forelimbs
- webbed feet (helps in swimming)
can we distinguish between male and female frog? if yes whats the difference?
yes we can distinguish between them hence they show sexual dimorphism.
in MALE frogs:
- They have sound producing vocal sacs. (uses it to attract female during breeding season)
- copulatory pad present in the first digit of forelimbs
whats the use of vocal sac in frogs?
vocal sacs are present in frogs and they use to attract the female during breeding season.
copulatory pad is present where?
in the first digit of the forelimb
what are the 2 main glands in frog?
liver and pancrease
frogs digestive system is comprised of
alimentary canal + glands (2 main glands : liver + pancrease)
in frogs what are the three parts that form the intestine
duodenum
ileum
rectum
the gastric juice secreted by stomach in frogs is formed of?
HCl + Pepsinogen (protein digesting enzyme)
What is the correct sequence of the alimentary canal in frogs starting from the mouth?
Mouth → Buccal Cavity → Pharynx → Oesophagus → Stomach →
→ (intestine) Duodenum → Ileum → Rectum → Cloaca → Cloacal Aperture (exit)
What is the function of the cloaca in frogs?
It is a common chamber where the digestive, urinary, and reproductive tracts open. It opens outside through the cloacal aperture.
