Fechners Law states

a) subjective sensation is proportional to the logarithm of the stimulus intensity
b) the more uncertain an event the more information is transmitted
c) the just noticeable difference between two stimuli is proportional to the magnitude of the stimuli

Q

What three principles did Shannon’s information entropy (H) obey and thus prove it was the only scientific measure for information

A

a) it must be continuous
b) Behaved in a lawful manner, such that as information increases as does the number
c) Provides the same measure of total information regardless how split

Q

Why is vision considered robust?

A

It optimally describes data even though outlying and erroneous values are present

Q

What does the cognition action interaction theory describe?

A

a) Higher order cognition is somewhat separated from the sensorimotor system despite interacting and being phylogenetically and ontogenetically underpinned by it

Similar to embodied cognition theory which roughly details that cognition (the nature of the human mind) is shaped by all aspects of the body. Such that higher order cognition cannot be considered separate to sensorimotor abilities - the categories overlap and interact.

Q

When using the two system description, the offline cognition system is:

a) Fast, unconscious, emotional (gut reactions) - makes decisions based on personal experience
b) Slower, cognitively penetrable, analytical, rationally balances benefits against costs and has evolved more recently
c) Fast, unconscious, emotional (gut reactions) - has evolved more recently
d) Slower, cognitively penetrable, analytical makes decisions based on personal experience
