Parliament
A formal group of representatives (MP’s) elected by the public.
- Main role to make law
Political party
An organisation that represents a group of people with shared values & ideas.
- Aims to have members elected by parliament
Government
The political party with majority of members in the lower house.
- Power given by the public
- Leader of party is pm (cth) or premier (st)
Opposition
The political party with the second largest number of members in the lower house.
Cabinet
The group of senior ministers in a gov who decides what the gov’s policies are & what bills should be introduced into parliament.
- Opposition have their own called shadow cabinet
Minister
Members of the gov have been given an area of responsibility e.g. education
- Opposition ones are called shadow ministers

- Liberal National party
- ALP (currently in power)
Minor parties
- Greens
- One Nation
Other political parties
Independents are MPs who don’t belong to any party
