Two tips when it comes to formal writing?
If something is online and is not 100% formal, it should be written very carefully as it would be a handwritten note. Always plan your formal papers such as cover letters. Gather knowledge about requirements and plan to write a paper that will represent you well.
What are the main 8 punctuations?
Periods, commas, quotation marks, semicolons, colons, exclamation points, question marks, and apostrophes.
What is a period? What can it do?
A period is a punctuation that mainly marks the end of a statement. It can also be used to mark the end of an abbreviation.
Where must a period be added in the two following sentences?
“Dr marty is very good doctor” and “Billy you must not go that far”
In the first sentence, a period is needed to end the abbreviation of Dr. and mark the end of the sentence after the word doctor. In the second sentence, a period is needed to end the sentence after the word far.
What are 6 ways a comma is used?
It is used to (1) separate conjunctions, (2) Separate introduction words, (3) separate items in a list of 3 or more, (4) Set off words that add details, (5) Separate quotation marks from the main sentence, and (6) separate two clauses.
Fix the following sentences that need correction.
1. Is Emma the tall one coming over today?
2. Hey I was thinking of going to the store today do you want to come?
3. I would love to come but my mom said no.
4. Really why? My mom said “do whatever you want darling.”

A colon is like an arrow, it points toward a list of things. Like an introduction into a list.
Which of the two sentences uses a colon correctly? And why?
1. The cake needs: Milk, bread, and eggs.
2. Th cake only needs three things: Milk, bread, and eggs.
The first sentence used the colon correctly because a colon can only be used after a complete sentence.

Which of the following sentences uses a semicolon correctly?
1. Mark finished eating his sandwich; he thinks the ocean is cool.
2. Mark finished eating his sandwich; he always eats a sandwich after work.
Sentence two is correct.
