Lesson 103 Flashcards
(12 cards)
Define Heat
Heat is energy in the process of being transferred from one object to another because of the temperature between them.
Define Latent heat
The heat energy required changing a substance from one state to another.
Define relative humidity
The ratio of the amount of water vapour actually in the air compared to the maximum amount of water vapour the air can hold at that particular temperature. Expressed as a percentage.
Define Dew Point
The temperature to which air would have to be cooled to achieve saturation.
The 3 requirements for condensation are _________
Condensation nuclei
Saturated air
Cooling of the air
List the four processes by which the atmosphere is heated.
Radiation
Conduction
Convection
Advection
What are the two processes by which the atmosphere is cooled.
Radiation
Advection
Describe advection cooling
When warm air moves over a colder surface heat transfer will take place and the air will cool.
When heat is transferred by contact, the process is called ______
Conduction
Heat transfer by horizontal movement of air is called _________.
Advection
When cool air moves over a warmer surface the air will warm. This is called_________.
Advection heating or cold air advection.
When warm air moves over a colder surface the air will cool. This is called________.
Advection cooling or warm air advection.
