A

Asked Pps to say which of 3 lines were the same as the ‘standard line’. Pps were in a group with confederates who gave wrong answers.In 33% of trials Pps conformed and gave wrong answer. Conformed due to NSI as they said didn’t want to be ridiculed

A

Asked Pps to estimate how many beans were in a jar. Was done individually and in group. When in group the answers were generally the same. Shows ISI as PPs would be uncertain of real answer.

What is a weakness of explanations for conformity (-)?

A

Dispositional factors may affect conformity. People with internal locus of control are less likely to conform than someone with external. NSI and ISI can’t explain this.

Has been suggested that there is a red explanation called ingratiational conformity. Similar to NSI, but group influence doesn’t affect
