lesson 3 Flashcards

types of blood cells: white blood cells are grouped into three main groups based on their appearance.
group 1= lymphocytes
group 2= granulocytes
group 3= monocytes
define phagocytosis:
phagocytosis: important and effective mechanism of destroying pathogens during innate (non specific) immune responses.
- the phagocyte takes the organism inside itself as a phagosome (type of vesicle)), which subsequently fuses with a lysosome and its digestive enzymes which then kill the pathogen.
what are the three main phagocytic cells:
macrophages
neutrophils
dendritic cells
give all the info u know about Macrophages.
are irregular shaped phagocytes, which develop from monocytes
-able to move and are able to enter and exit the blood stream and move through different tissue
-they exist in many tissues of the body, and are predominantly found in the body cavities an organs
some are wandering cells that go looking for pathogens - these are able to move through tissues and squeeze through the capillary walls
some are fixed in one place a
