7
Q

Why is agricultural yield important?

A

Agricultural yield is important because if you can increase the yield (amount produced
per hectare), then you don’t have to use as much land to produce the same amount of
food/fibres.

22
Q

What happens when there is a drought?

A

When there is a drought, the amount produced per hectare generally goes down.

23
Q

What nutrients do plants need?

A

They need nutrients like:
- Nitrogen
- Phosphorous
- Potassium

24
Q

what is ph level?

A

how acidic the soil is

25
what ph level do blueberries grow best in?
pH level 5-5.8
26
Why are flat areas good for agriculture? (3)
a. When the rain falls, it falls evenly on all areas of the farm b. The rain doesn’t wash away the nutrients of the soil c. It’s easier to plant seeds and then collect/harvest the crops
27
what is contour farming?
Planting and harvesting crops along lines that follow the shape of the land.
28
what is terracing?
Digging steps into the land and creating barriers to stop the water and soil washing down the hill.
29
what is grazing?
Using the highest, hilliest parts of the land for grazing animals instead of planting crops.
