Lesson 8 Flashcards
1
Q
What is the doppler effect?
A
An increase (or decrease) in the frequency of sound, light, or other waves as the source and observer move toward (or away from) each other. The effect causes the sudden change in pitch noticeable in a passing siren.

Q
For doppler, the general equation
A
fâ = [(v+vo)/(v-vs)]
A positive is used for motion when moving toward and negative for moving away
v = speed of sound waves
f = frequency of source
fâ = observed frequency
vo = velocity of observer
vs = velocity of source
