statement
a sentence that is either true or false
Question, command, nonsense
Do not have truth values, cannot be true or false.
self-supporting statement
a statement whose truth value can be determined from the statement itself.
supported statement
A statement with a truth value that depends on evidence or information from outside of the
statement itself.
tautology
a statement that is always true by logical structure.
self-contradiction
a statement that is false by logical structure.
Deduction
Formal logic that deals with reasoning from premises to conclusions, conclusions that are either
valid or invalid.
Consistency
When two statements can be true at the same time.
Implication
When two statements are related so that the truth of one requires the truth of the other.
Logically equivalent statements
The first must imply the second and the second must imply the first.
Independent statements
The truth or falsity of one has no effect on the truth or falsity of the other.
Disagreement
Where two statements appear to be inconsistent.
Real disagreement
An actual inconsistency; both statements cannot be true at the same time.
Apparent disagreement
A difference of opinion or perception
Verbal disagreement
A misunderstanding due to differing definitions for one or more words.
