Level 2 Flashcards
(9 cards)
Explain how you ensure your personal safety on site?
*Pre-Site Safety Briefing - I review any specific hazards, risk assessments, and the site-specific health and safety procedures
*PPE Compliance
*Health & Safety Awareness - familiar with evacuation procedures and emergency contacts on site.
Being fully prepared before I even set foot on the site, maintaining vigilance while I’m there, and always adhering to the site’s health and safety protocols
Tell me about how you ensure good health & safety practices whilst on site?
I ensure:
*Review relevant documentation such as the Construction Phase Plan, risk assessments, and method statements to understand site-specific hazards and how they’re being controlled
*I attend any site inductions and follow the sign-in procedures
*I always wear the correct PPE
I play an active role in encouraging good safety practices
What would you do if you suspected asbestos existed on a site inspection?
manage the risk safely and in line with Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012. I would:
*stop any activity in the area immediately
*no one touches or interferes with the material
*report my findings straightaway
*check if there is an asbestos register or R&D survey
*pause works until a qualified asbestos surveyor can sample
*until confirmation ensure the suspected area is clearly marked, cordoned off,
What hazardous materials have you come across in your work?
- Asbestos - ceiling tiles, pipe lagging, and textured coatings.
*Lead-based paint - buildings built before 1980s
*Mould and Fungal Growth - particularly black mould
*Biological Hazards - animal waste drugs
Alt Bridge modular building installation - What do you consider when reviewing construction phase plans?
CPP must clearly set out how health and safety will be managed on site during the project. It should include:
*Project-Specific Information
*Identification and Management of Significant Risks
*Site Setup, Logistics and Welfare Provisions
*Emergency procedures
*Roles and Responsibilities under CDM
*Monitoring and Supervision
How did you assess the contractors risk assessment?
Is it:
*Project and Task Relevance
*Clear Hazard Identification - working at height and manual handling
*Control Measures - follow hierarchy of control
*Legal and Best Practice Compliance - HSE guidance, manufacturer safety data sheets
*Responsibilities and Communication - who will implement control and how risks will be communicated to workers
*Monitoring and Review - projects that evolve over time, or where new risks may arise
Can you provide a risk that was identified and mitigated?
Public access during construction works worked with the Principal Contractor to agree a clear segregation plan:
*Installing solid hoarding and lockable doors around work areas
*Clear signage and wayfinding for alternative public routes
*Scheduling noisy or high-risk work outside of peak public hours
*Assigning a dedicated site gateperson to manage deliveries and stop unauthorised access
*Including the segregation layout and access controls in the Construction Phase Plan
Alt Bridge School - gym refurbishment Why did you instruct a R&D survey?
Purpose of the R&D survey is to identify any asbestos-containing materials (ACMs) that could be disturbed during the planned works. R&D survey is more invasive and tailored to the specific areas affected by the refurbishment or demolition.
How did you assess the contractors competence?
- experience - review their *track record on similar project qualifications - CHAS, Constructionline
*health and safety track record - SMSTS, CSCS, asbestos awareness
*Financial Stability & Resource - What systems they have in place to ensure quality Assurance & Supervision
