2
Q

Qualitative data

A

data that has words/non-numerical data
+insight into behaviour=more useful
-harder to compare and it is subjective

3
Q

Primary data

A

Data collected by you
+ensures data is collected and analysed properly
-takes time as research doesn’t already exist

Q

Secondary data

A

Data collected by someone else that you are using
+saves time
-quality of the data is subject yo the weaknesses present in the originsl design=lower validity

Q

nominal level data

A

Data is in categories. Shows number of times something has occured
+easy to analyse
-cannot compare individual scores

6
Q

Ordinal level data

A

places results in rank order eg 1st,2nd ect
+allows for some comparison-can be treated as nominal
-cannot see the difference between each rank. Non scientific units

Q

Interval/Ratio level data

A

numbers coming from an equal/Known unit
interval=can be negative numbers eg temperature
ratio=has a ultimate zero eg distance/weight
+can be treated as ordinal/nominal, allows for comparison
-none

8
Q

Mean

A

add up all of the scores and divide them by how many there are
+uses all raw data
-can be affected by extreme scores

9
Q

Median

A

Place all the data in order, the middle value is the median
+uses all data, not affected by extreme scores
-can be distorted by small samples eg 1, 14, 70

Q

Mode

A

most frequent number in data
+not influenced by extreme scores
-does not use all raw data

Q

Range

A

difference between the highest value and the lowest value +1
+easy to calculate
-influenced by extreme scores eg 1, 13, 18, 19, 70

Q

Variance

A

standard deviation squared. considers data and the mean=deviation
+not affected by extreme scores
-takes time(needs to be done for every single score)
