Q

What are the 5 steps in drawing Lewis structures?

A

1) Find the total number of valence electrons

2) Draw a line between bonded atoms

3) Allocate remaining electrons as lone pairs to each atom joined to the central atom (except H)

4) Place remaining electrons as lone pairs on the central atom

5) If the central atom does not have an octet, take a lone pair and form a multiple bond to the central atom.

Q

What two questions do you ask to check if a Lewis structure is correct?
