What is the quality criteria of a fresco?
- Good use of individual colour
2 Good use of contrasting colour - Fine detail
- Use of pattern to create cohesiveness
What are the strengths of frescoes?
-Realistic portrayal of life
-Useful information (clothing, hairstyles, makeup, activities)
-Interesting and vivid
-Shows conscious effort to organise images in stories
What are the limitations of frescoes?
-May be inaccurate when broken and restored
-Lacks perspective and is therefore unrealistic and difficult to understand
-Not all colours survive so difficult to make out details
