Types of lighting rigs:

- top light / down light
- up light
What does low front light do?
Very flat lighting, unnatural/eerie
Balcony rail lighting position effect?
Lights actors face but casts shadows downstage
Parcan
very intense, can wash out
Fresnel
use barn doors to adjust beam
Profile lighting
very defined, features clearly exposed
Flood lighting
whole stage lit up, good for scenic backdrop
when not using gels:
open white
Places to put lights:

booms (in wings)

a lighting state which completely replaces the current state on stage

light from above and to the side of the actors, crossing the stage at 90 degrees to the audiences’ view
