Limbs Part 4 Flashcards
(35 cards)
What are the 2 main nerves that originate from the lumbar plexus?
- Femoral nerve
- Obturator nerve
What does the femoral nerve supply?
Anterior compartment of thigh
What does the obturator nerve supply?
- Medial (adductor) compartment of thigh
What major nerve originate from the sacral plexus?
Sciatic nerve
What are the branches of teh sciatic nerve?
-
Common fibular nerve
-
Common peroneal nerve
- Deep peroneal nerve
- Superficial peroneal nerve
-
Common peroneal nerve
- Tibial nerve
Which nerve innervates the anterior thigh muscles?
Femoral nerve
Which nerve innervates the medial thigh muscles?
Obturator nerve
Which nerve supply the buttock and posterior thigh muscles?
Sciatic nerve
Which nerve supply the anterior leg muscles?
Deep peroneal nerve
Which nerve supply the lateral leg muscles?
Superficial peroneal nerve
Which nerve supply the posterior leg muscles?
Tibial nerve
Terminal branches – lateral and medial plantar nerves (planta = sole of foot)
What are the branches of the common iliac artery (2)?
- Internal iliac artery
- External iliac artery
What is the name of the external iliac artery when it passes through the inguinal ring?
- Femoral artery
What is the name of the femoral artery when it passes through behind the knee?
- Popliteal artery
What is the name of the popliteal artery after it passes through behind the knee?
- Tibial artery
What are the branches of the femoral artery (2)?
- Femoral artery
- Deep femoral artery
What are the branches of the deep femoral artery (2)?
- Superior gluteal arteries
- Inferior gluteal arteries
What are the branches of the popliteal artery (4)?
- Superior lateral genicular artery
- Superior medial genicular artery
- Inferior lateral genicular arteries
- Inferior medial genicular arteries
What are the branches of the tibial artery (3)?
- Posterior tibial artery
- Anterior tibial artery
- Peroneal artery
What does anterior tibial artery become past the ankle?
- Dorsalis pedis artery
What does posterior tibial artery become past the ankle?
- Lateral plantar artery
What is the branch of the lateral plantar artery
- Medial plantar artery
The deep veins accompany the arteries in the form of venae comitantes. What are the 2 major superficial arteries and where do they drain?
- Short Saphenous vein drains into popliteal vein
- Long saphenous vein drains into femoral vein
What is the cardiovascular significance of the lower limbs?
The calf pump:
* Lower limb vein valves allow only distal to proximal flow. Deep leg veins sandwiched between layers of calf muscles. Contraction of muscles squeezes deep veins pushing blood towards heart.
