Lines, Angles, And Shapes - Chapter 3 Flashcards
(21 cards)
What does perpendicular mean
When two lines meet at right angles they are perpendicular to each other
What is an acute angle
An angle which is smaller than 90° but bigger than 0°
What is an obtuse angle
An angle which is bigger than 90° but smaller than 180°
What is a reflex angle
An angle which is bigger than 180° but smaller than 360°
What is a revolution
It is a complete turn, an angle of exactly 360°
What are complementary angles
When the sum of two angles is 90° those two angles are complementary angles
What are supplementary angles
When the sum of two angles is 180° those two angles are supplementary angles
What are angles round a point
The sum of the angles at a point is 360°
What are vertically opposite angles
When two lines intersect they create two pairs of vertically opposite angles, vertically opposite angles are equal, looks like X
What are corresponding angles
When two parallel lines are cut by a transversal four pairs of corresponding angles are formed. Corresponding angles are equal and are found in a F shape lane inside parts)
What are alternate angles
When two parallel lines are cut a by A transversal two pairs of alternate angles are formed. Alters ate angles are equal they are found in a Z shape (the inside parts)
What are co-interior angles
When two parallel lines ave cut by a transversal two pairs of co-interior angles are formed. Co-interior angles are supplementary, meaning they add to 180°, they are found in a C shape
Parallelogram
- Opposite sides are equal & parallel
- opposite angles are equal
- looks like a pushed rectangle
Rectangle
- Opposite angles are equal & parallel
- all angles are 90°
Square
- All sides are equal
- all angles are 90°
Rhombus
- All sides ave equal in length
- opposite sides are parallel
- looks like a pushed square
Trapezium
- One pair of parallel lines
Kite
- Two pairs of adjacent sides are equal
- one pair of opposite angles are equal
What is the sum of interior angles
I = (n-2) x 180°
What is the sum of exterior angles
E= 360°
What is circumference, radius, diameter, chord
- Circumference is the length around the circle
- radius is the length from centre of the circle to the edge
- diameter is the length from one side of the circle to the other
- chrock is a section of a circle
