Simile:
A comparison of two or more things using like or as. Ex. His teeth shone bright like the moon
Metaphor:
Comparison of two or more things not using the words like or as. Ex. That chief is a magician
Personification:
Giving human traits to non human objects. Ex. The shadows danced.
Understatement:
Less strength or emphasis I used than expected. Ex. The elephant was mildly big.
Onomatopea: l
A word that makes a sound. Ex. Ouch, boom, pow, crack, etc.
Idiom:
Not meant to be taken literally. Has different meanings.
Pun:
A word or phrase which has a double meaning. Ex. My vacuum doesn’t work. Just suck it up.
Proverb:
Word or passage where wisdom is given. Meant to express the truth. Ex. Many hands make light work.
Oxymoron:
Two or more words that contradict each other. Ex. Jumbo shrimp.
