Localization Flashcards
(18 cards)
Localization of function
Every behavior has its specific place in the brain and is associated with a certain brain area
Nervous system
Group of neurons which purpose is to communicate (spinal cord and the brain)
Cortex
Layer of neurons with a folded surface covering the brain on the outside, largest part of the brain. Divided into 4 lobes
Frontal lobe
Responsible for reasoning, planning, thinking, decision making, voluntary action, complex emotions. Personality
Parietal lobe
Movement, orientation, perception and recognition.
Occipital lobe
Visual processing, spatial awareness
Temporal lobes
Processes auditory information, memory and speech
Corpus callosum
Structure of neurons that connects the two hemispheres
Cerebellum
Coordination of movement and balance
Thalamus
Sensory functions
Hypothalamus
Emotion, thirst and hunger
Amygdala
Memory, emotion and fear
Hippocampus
Learning, memory and transferring short term memory to a permanent store, spatial orientation
Brain stem
Regúlate the basic vital processes such as breathing and heart beat.
Brocas aphasia
the loss of articulated speech
What controls speech articulation
left frontal lobe
Wernicke´s area
responsible for the comprehension of written and spoken language
