Explanation 1
The Locative case (Місце́вий відмі́нок) shows where something is or happens.
It answers the question “Where?” — Де? Or “on whom”, “on what” — на кому, на чому.
Explanation 2
It is used only with prepositions, most commonly:
* в / у — in
* на — on, at
* при — next to, by
This case is essential for saying things like “at school,” “in the city,” or “on the table.”
What are the endings for masculine nouns in locative case?
ліс, обрій
-і / -ї
Examples: у лісі́ (in the forest), на о́брії (on the horizon)
What is the ending for neuter nouns in locative case?
місто, місце
-і / ї
Examples: у місті (in the city), на місці (at the place)
Some masculine and neuter nouns are tricky!
будинок, сад
If they have suffixes -ок, -ик, -ак → -у
If they are short: → у
Examples: у будинку (in the house)
у саду (in the garden)
What are the endings for feminine nouns in locative case?
школа, сім’я
-і / -ї
Examples: у школі́ (in the school), у сім’ї (in the family)
What are the endings for plural nouns in locative case?
місто, край
-ах / -ях
Examples: у міста́х (in the cities), у краях (in the lands)
