LOFT Oral Gouge Flashcards
(29 cards)
- How do you set the parking brake on a “cold” airplane? What creates pressure for power brakes?
Press tow pedals, pull PARK BRAKE HANDLE with BATTERY CONNECTED (HBB) and BATT switch ON. DC motor driven hydraulic pump pressurizes brake accumulator mechanically by depressing toe brakes.
- What does each position of the BATT switch do?
BATT: BATT Relay Closed, EMER Relay de-energized (XFEED).
OFF: BATT Relay Open, EMER Relay de-energized (XFEED).
EMER: Batt Relay Open, EMER Relay Energized (HBB).
- What does each position of the GEN switch do?
GEN: Allows GCU to close PWR relay (connects GEN to feed it’s bus)
OFF: Opens the PWR relay (no load to feed bus)
RESET: Closes GEN field relay if opened and no fault exists.
- Regarding the Gen check following engine start, what does each step of this check tell you?
LH: L Amp Drop, R Amp rise 29V +/- 2.5v
RH: Voltage drop, Batt (24V Min)
LH: Online, amps rise, 29V +/- 2.5v
RH: Generators paralleling, 29v +/- 2.5v
OFF: L/R Amps drop, 0 volts
BATT: 29v +/- 2.5v
- BATT O’TEMP annunciator, after completing the memory items, volts/amps decrease. How does EMER solve the problem? Why select OFF next? Why not stay in EMER? Why not select OFF instead of EMER initially?
EMER: Opens BATT relay (stops battery charging).
OFF: Check Batt relay stays open, remaining in EMER will drain battery in 30 minutes losing emergency items.
Off Initially? We need to determine if the BATT relay is stuck, keeps EMER Bus powered in emergency.
- what valves does the PRESS SOURCE (AIR SOURCE SELECT) knob control?
AIR SOURCE SELECTOR: Determines sources and amount of bleeding air that enters the cabin.
BOTH: LH and RH PRSOV’S 4ppm, 8ppm total.
FRESH AIR: No airflow, cabin receives pylon ram air pressure only (depressurizes at leak rate).
EMER PRESS: WS AI /. EMER Press control valve provides 6ppm.
OFF: Energizes PRSOV’S, FCV’S and WS SOV closed (depressurizes at leak rate).
- Describe what happens in the Environmental Control System (ECS) when the pilot changes the temperature inside the aircraft.
The ram air modulating valve moves to control air flow over the cabin heat exchanger, also triggering the AC compressor off when driven to 70% closed.
- Describe what happens in the hydraulic system to extend the speed brakes and keep them out.
System bypass and hydraulic loading valve are energized to operate, de-energized when complete by micro switch. Speed brakes held in position by trapped pressure.
- Describe how fuel is moved from the tank to the engine.
The engine driven fuel pumps provide pressure for motive flow through the Primary Fuel Ejector and scavenger pumps to supply high volume fuel flow to the engine.
- What causes the N1 fan to turn?
By the N2 (low pressure) shaft through accessory drive vertical tower shaft via a bevel gear to the N2 shaft or the low pressure turbine.
- What part of the engine is producing the bleed air used in the ESC (and anti-ice system)?
The high pressure compressor.
- Why does increasing N2 cause an illuminated ENG ANTI-ICE annunciator to extinguish?
Increasing N2 increases the volume and temperature of the bleed air to increase cowl temperature.
- Why does reducing power cause an illuminated BLD AIR O’HEAT annunciator to extinguish?
It reduces the volume and temperature of air coming front the compressor.
- Why would bringing the throttle to idle cause an illuminated engine FIRE switch light to extinguish?
In the event of a bleed air leak being detected by the fire detection loop, the escaping air would be reduced eliminating the indication.
- How is the engine oil cooled?
Through the Fuel-Oil heat exchanger.
- What is the function of the engine bleed off valve? Will it operate with a loss of normal DC power?
Energizes PRSOV’s, FCV, and W/S AIR SOV Closed. Requires normal DC power for operation.
- How is the hydraulic system pressure limited to 1,500 psi?
The relief valve cracks at 1350 PSI and fully opens at 1500 psi (bypassing excess fluid pressure to the return line).
- At what N2 engine rpm does the start sequence terminate?
45% N2
- What turns off automatically at 45% N2?
Ignition and Fuel Boost Pump
- At what point does the ignition begin operating during the engine start?
When the throttle is moved to the Start/Idle position.
- What minimum N2 rpm is required to open the anti-ice valves?
70%
- What is the definition of icing conditions?
Temperatures below 10 degrees C in visible moisture or visibility below 1nm.
- What has happened automatically if the engine anti-ice switches are on and the WING O’HEAT annunciator light illuminates?
The wing anti-ice valves immediately close to protect the overheated wing, the MASTER CAUTION lights are armed to come on in approximately 1 minute.
- What are the 2 functions of the rudder tab?
- Normal rudder trimming.
- A Servo-Assist function deflects 1/4 degree in opposite direction for each degree of rudder deflection.
