William Blake tells us that London is unambiguously and induvitably corrupt. London is also quite authoritarian and it abuses it’s power.

Blake is highlighting how london was so controlled in order to expand their empire by making people think in a certain way so that they could fight for their country.

Language and structural techniques
Personification of “Runs in blood”
Oxymoron of “hapless soldier’s” because soldiers are not meant to be useless.
Volta of “mind-forged manacles I hear” shows the severity of control that exists within this society because they are being controlled by their minds and they don’t even realise it.
Symbolism of “manacles” they are being controlled they are struggling and they are suffering.
Anaphora of “mark”. It’s not a real mark but it’s a sign. It’s a symbol of the pain and suffering that they are going through.
Hyperbole of “mark in every face I meet.” Nobody is safe
