What is the difference between an indirect and direct inguinal hernia?

Indirect passes through the deep inguinal ring


Direct protrude through the abdominal wall directly - At Hesselbach's triangle


What is the difference between incarcerated and strangulated?

Incarcerated - Non reducible

Strangulated - Incarcerated + Ischaemic


What should always be considered in a female?

Ectopic pregnancy


How does the presence or absence of anorexia guide your diagnosis?

Generally, pathologies involving the peritoneum cause anorexia


Why might you get a metabolic acidosis in a ruptured AAA?

Reduced perfusion causes ischaemia > lactic acidosis
