What is asthma?
A common lung condition that causes airways to become inflamed and narrow. This makes it difficult for the person to breathe.
What is bronchitis?
An inflammation of the bronchial tubes, the airways that carry air to and from the lungs.
What is emphysema?
A chronic lung condition where the alveoli in the lungs become damaged and lose their elasticity.
What is chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(COPD)?
A group of lung diseases that cause progressive airflow obstruction and breathing difficulties.
What is cystic fibrosis?
A genetic disease that causes the body to produce thick, sticky mucus. This mucus builds up in various organs, primarily the lungs and pancreas.
What is pulmonary fibrosis?
A chronic lung disease characterized by the formation of scar tissue (fibrosis) in the lungs.
What is lung cancer?
A type of cancer that starts in the lungs. It occurs when cells in the lungs grow abnormally and uncontrollably, forming a tumor.
What is sudden infant death syndrome(SIDS)?
The sudden and unexplained death of an infant under one year of age, usually during sleep. Normally because of an unsafe sleeping situation, in which they stop breathing while asleep.
What is strep throat?
A bacterial infection of the throat which causes inflammation of the throat and tonsils.
What is diphtheria?
A highly contagious bacterial infection that causes a thick, gray membrane to form in the throat and other parts of the respiratory system.
What is the common cold?
A viral infection of the upper respiratory tract, primarily affecting the nose, throat, and sinuses.
What is laryngitis?
Inflammation of the larynx which normally causes loss of voice, harsh breathing, and/or a painful cough.
What is whooping cough?
A highly contagious respiratory infection which causes incontrollable coughing fits.
What is tuberculosis?
An infectious disease which is highly contagious. Symptoms include chest pain, coughing, etc.
What is pneumonia?
An infection of the lungs that causes the alveoli to fill with fluid or pus.
What is the flu/influenza?
A contagious respiratory illness which infects the nose, throat, and lungs.
What is histoplasmosis?
A fungal infection caused by inhaling spores of the fungus Histoplasma capsulatum. It causes high fevers, chills, chest pain, etc.
What is cidioidomycosis?
An infection caused by the fungus Coccidioides. It can lead to pneumonia.
