What three parts is a tooth made up of?
-The crown
-The root

What is the crown of the tooth?
The crown is the part which you can see when you smile or open your mouth. This is located above the gum line.
What is the root of the tooth?
This is the part of the tooth which you cannot see. It is located below the gum line and makes up about 2/3 of the tooth’s total length.
What is the neck of the tooth?
The neck of a tooth is the part between the crown and the root.
What 4 tissues do the crown and root of the tooth contain?
-Enamel
-Dentin
-The pulp
-Cementum
What is enamel?
It is the white that covers the tooth. It is very tough and contains calcium.
What is dentine?
A yellow bone like material that is slightly softer than enamel. It contains tubules that help transmit sensors to the nerves.
What is pulp?
This is the soft tissue in the center of the tooth. It holds the tooth’s nerve endings and blood vessels, which transmit messages to the brain.
What is cementum?
This covers the root of the tooth and helps attach your tooth to the bones of your jaw.
What is the periodontal ligament?
A cushioning layer between the cementum and the jawbone to help absorb pressure.
What is the gum line?
It connects the tooth with the gums.
