Who is Laurent Clerc?
He was an apostle of the deaf in America, he co founded the first deaf school, he helped set the foundations for American Sign Language, he is a deaf man from France, and he was the first deaf teacher in America, too.
When was he born and when did he die?
He was born on December 26, 1785 and died on July 18, 1869.

He was adventurous and was intrigued by the prospect of living in a country that was not Catholic. Gallaudet had to sign a contract with Sicard, stating that Clerc was “on loan” for 3 years in the states.
