Lymph, Excretion, and Metabolism Flashcards
(9 cards)
Is the lymphatic system one-way or two-way? If so, why?
It is one-way, because the lymphatic system does not deliver any substances, but just collects them.
Where do undigested foods, carbon dioxide, and extra salt or water leave the body?
Anus, lungs, and sweat glands, urine, and feces.
What substances go the nephron’s filter but is not found in urine? What is mostly reabsorbed through the filter? What two things do not go through the filter? What goes through the filter and is then found in urine?
Glucose. Water. Red Blood Cells and Protein. Salt, Water, and Urea.
What are the four main organs of the excretory system?
Urethra, Bladder, Kidneys, Uterer.
Excess amino acids to be used for energy are converted in the liver to what waste product?
Urea.
What is the definition of metabolism?
The building and breaking actions of the body.
Which gives you more energy: burning glucose with or without oxygen?
Burning glucose with oxygen.
You are panting after running up the stairs. What types of respiration occurred? What substance was accumulated?
Aerobics and Anaerobic. Lactic Acid.
How does the excretory system interact with the circulatory system?
In the nephron, nutrients diffuse into and out of the filter. Urea, Salt, and Water are brought out of the urethra and urinated, while the rest is diffused into the bloodstream.
