Lymphatics of Thorax Flashcards
(23 cards)
What is the superifical lymphatic drainage of thoracic wall?
- to axillary LNs
What is the deep lymphatic drainage of thoracic wall?
- to posterior intercostal, phrenic and parasternal LNs
Where do the parsternal LNs run?
- parallel to sternum and adjacent to internal thoracic blood vessesls
Average number of parasternal LNs on each side of sternum?
- 4 to 5
What are the afferent vessels of the parasternal LNs?
- anterior phrenic LNs
- anterior thoracic wall
- medial half of breast
What is the efferent vessels of the parasternal LNs?
- travel to bronchomediastinal trunk
Where are the posterior intercostal LN’s located?
- in paravertebral region of intercostal spaces
What are the efferent vessels of the posterior intercostal LNs?
- superior to 4-5 intercostal spaces to posterior mediastinal LNs
- inferior 6-7 intercostal spaces to inferior intercostal trunks
Where do the phrenic LN’s located?
- lie on superior surface of thoracic diaphragm
What are the two divisions of the phrenic LNs?
- anterior phrenic
2. posterior phrenic
Where are the brachiocephalic LNs located?
- in superior mediastinum anterior to confluence of superior vena cava and aortic arch
Where do the efferent vessels of brachiocephalic LNs drain?
- to pretracheal LNs
What are the afferent vessels of the posterior mediastinal LNs?
- posterior phrenic LNs and superior 4-5 posterior intercostal LNs
What are the efferent vessels of the posterior mediastinal LNs?
- thoracic duct
- bronchomediastinal trunk
- bronchotracheal LNs
What are the 2 lymphatic plexus of the lungs?
- superficial lymphatic plexus
2. deep lymphatic plexus
What is the location of superficial lymphatic plexus?
- in visceral pleura
What is the location of deep lymphatic plexus?
- surround intrapulmonary blood vessels and parts of bronchial tree
What are the LNs of lungs?
- hilar LNs
- pulmonary LNs
- superior bronchotracheal
- paratracheal LNs
What are the two afferent vessels pathways to the hilar LNs?
- superficial lymphatic plexus –> hilar LNs
2. deep lymphatic plexus –> pulmonary LNs –> hilar LNs
What are the two pathways of efferent vessel pathways from hilar LNs to R & L bronchomediastinal trunks?
- hilar LN –> carinal LN –> bronchotracheal LN –> paratracheal LN –> bronchomediastinal trunk
- hilar LN –> bronchotracheal LN –> paratracheal LN –> bronchomediastinal trunk
What are the 6 main axillary LNs?
- pectoral/anterior
- humeral/lateral
- subscapular/posterior
- central
- subclavian/apical
- subareolar lymphatic plexus
Where does 75% of the lymph go from the subareolar lymphatic plexus?
- axillary LNs (superolateral quadrant)
Where does 25% of the lymph go from the subareolar lymphatic plexus?
- parasternal lymph nodes (medial quadrant)
