M2 - Transcription Flashcards

(5 cards)

1
Q

Transcription steps

A
  1. DNA helicase breaks hydrogen bonds between bases
  2. One strand acts as template and free mRNA molecules align opposite exposed bases
  3. RNA polymerase joins together adjacent RNA nucleotides and forms phosphodiester bonds
  4. Once on gene in copied, mRNA is modified and leaves nucleus from pores in the nuclear envelope
