M2 - Transcription Flashcards
(5 cards)
1
Q
Transcription steps
A
- DNA helicase breaks hydrogen bonds between bases
- One strand acts as template and free mRNA molecules align opposite exposed bases
- RNA polymerase joins together adjacent RNA nucleotides and forms phosphodiester bonds
- Once on gene in copied, mRNA is modified and leaves nucleus from pores in the nuclear envelope
