A
- diaphragm contracts and flattens
- external intercostal muscles contract and push ribcage up and out
- thorax volume increases, decreasing pressure
- air moves into lungs from high to low pressures

A
- diaphragm relaxes and curves upwards
- external intercostal muscles relax and ribcage moves down and in
- thorax volume decreases and pressure increases
- air moves out of lungs
