● Covers a series of activities at the community level aimed at
bringing about desired improvement in the social well being of
individuals, groups and neighborhoods.
● Community organizations are richly varied groups but are often
described as non-profit organization

Sining na Naglilingkod sa Bayan (Art
for the People)
It is a mass organization of
nationalist artists, writers, cultural
workers and activities; individuals
and groups who are competent or
inclined in the various disciplines
of art and literature and are ready
to arouse, organize and mobilize
the masses towards the path of
National Democracy.

1994: A group of
young writers and
visual artists formed a
performing group

● The basic unit of SINAGBAYAN is the chapter, composed
of a minimum of ten members.
● Each SINAGBAYAN chapter stands as an integral
performing group – one which has the capacity to
perform, at a minimum, a standard repertoire; and
capable of creating new art works/pieces.

● SINAGBAYAN holds educational discussions, and
workshops for its own members, for communities and
school and for other groups and organizations.

● Poetry, dance, theater, music and visual arts are the usual
components of each performance.
Performances and Productions
● SINAGBAYAN reaches out and upholds the particular
struggles of various communities and achieves its objective
of studying, creating and popularizing nationalists,
mass-oriented and scientific art and literature which
present the life and struggle of the Filipino masses.
Community Integration
● SINAGBAYAN upholds the people’s concerns by launching
and participating in various campaigns and maximizing
various means of propaganda to raise the people’s
awareness and understanding of social realities.

● SINAGBAYAN works to bring the attention and support of
the international community to the Filipino people’s issues
and unites with individuals, groups and organizations in
other countries

How do they preserve Art?
SINAGBAYAN conducts cultural productions:

isang pahinumdom, remembers the experiences of the
people in the affected areas during and after the supertyphoon
based on personal interviews with Tacloban and Palo residents and
real life accounts and events. Moreover, the play encourages the
people to face the challenges of climate change and reduce disaster
risks through cooperation and community resiliency. The play was
staged in 2015 at PUP Sta Mesa (October), Tacloban City, Palo
Leyte (October), San Jose Del Monte Bulacan (November) and at
the Lumad Camp in Liwasang Bonifacio, Manila (November).

Dance Show Celebrates Bonifacio in UP, PUP In
the spirit of Andres Bonifacio’s revolutionary heroism, Sinagbayan
restages “Pitong Sundang: Mga Sayaw sa Lupa at Pakikibaka” with
shows on November 29 (3 and 7pm) and a special gala and
Bonifacio exhibit opening on Nov. 30 (6 pm) at the University of the
Philippines (UP Diliman), CSWCD Bulwagang Tandang Sora. Two
shows on December 6 - 7 (7pm) will be staged at the Polytechnic
University of the Philippines (PUP Sta. Mesa) Bulwagang Balagtas.
“Pitong Sundang” features contemporary dance pieces on the life
and struggles of the peasantry based on poems by Ericson Acosta,
Alan Jazmines and Reuel Molina Aguila. With choreography by
Lorelei Bulan and Ekis Gimenez, lights by Katsch Catoy, visual
design by Rowena Bayon and Iggy Rodriguez, and original music
from Talahib. Directed by Edwin Quinsayas. Shows are presented in
cooperation with Anakpawis Partylist.
