M5 Shoulder Girdle & Joint Flashcards
(21 cards)
what is the scapulohumeral rhythm?
the coordinated movement of the humerus and scapula
what is the sternoclavicular joint composed of?
proximal clavicle, sternum, & cartilage of the first rib
what are the clavicle movements at the SC joint?
elevation/depression
protraction/retraction
forward & backward rotation
what is the acromioclavicular joint composed of?
the acromion process and distal end of the clavicle
describe what happens in a lateral and medial tilt of the scapula
lateral –> medial border moves posteriorly & lateral border moves anteriorly
medial –> medial border moves anteriorly & lateral border moves posteriorly
describe what happens in upward and downward rotation of the scapula
upward –> inferior angle moves superiorly and laterally
downward –> inferior angle moves inferiorly and medially
describe what happens in an anterior and posterior tilt of the scapula
anterior –> posterior surface faces tips upwards and inferior protrudes from the back
posterior –> slight tipping of posterior surface downwards and forwards
what are the anterior muscles of the shoulder girdle?
pectoralis minor
serratus anterior
subclavius
what are the posterior muscles of the shoulder girdle?
levator scapulae
rhomboids
trapezius
what scapular movements is the pectoralis major responsible for?
abudction
downward rotation
anterior tilt
depression
what scapular movements is the serratus anterior responsible for?
abduction
what scapular movements is the subclavius responsible for?
depression
what scapular movements is the levator scapulae responsible for?
elevation
downward rotation
what scapular movements are the rhomboids responsible for?
adduction
downward rotation
elevation
what scapular movements is the trapezius responsible for?
upper: elevation
middle: elevation, up rot, adduction
lower: adduction
very lower: depression, up rot, adduction
what are the three grades of a SC joint sprain?
1 - little pain and disability, point tenderness, no deformity
2 - subluxation of SC joint w/ visible deformity and pain (inflammation and inability to abduct)
3 - complete dislocation of clavicle and sternal junction (rupture of SC ligaments)
what are the three grades of a AC join sprain?
1 - little pain and disability, point tenderness, no deformity
2 - displacement and prominence of distal end of clavicle
3 - complete dislocation of AC joint, bump more prominent
what is the glenoid labrum?
deepens the fossa and acts as cushion against impact of humeral head in forceful movements
which ligaments reinforce the GH joint?
coracohumeral
coracoacromial
glenohumeral
how does the pectoralis major move the shoulder joint?
clavicular portion: flexion, horizontal adduction, medial rotation
sternocostal portion: extenstion, medial rotation with adduction
how does the coracobrachialis move the shoulder joint?
