magnetism Flashcards
(7 cards)
what are the poles of magnets
the poles of magnets are the places where the magnetic forces are strongest
what are two poles of a magnet called
North and south
what do two like poles do?
repel each other
explain why there is a force on the wire when there is a current in the wire? (motor effect)
there is a magnetic field due to the magnet
and the current in the wire produces a magnetic field
how is a magnetic field created?
whenever electrons flow through the wire a magnetic field forms around the wire in circles
is also created by magnets
flemings left hand rule
thumb-direction of force
first finger-direction of magnetic field
second finger-direction of current
what is a permanent magnet?
a magnet that produces their own magnetic field all the time
