Q

What is corrosion

A

corrosion is the destruction of materials by chemical reactions with substances in the environment.
Rusting is an example of corrosion. It is caused by iron reacting with oxygen and WATER from the environment.
It can be prevented in 2 ways: physical barriers, sacrificial protection

Q

what is sacrificial protection

A

adding a more reactive metal to the surface of a material
the more reactive substance will react with the environment and not the main material.
for example iron is galvanised with zinc. the zinc then reacts with oxygen and water in the place of iron.
