Making salts Flashcards
Acid + metal?
Salts + hydrogen
What does sulphuric acid produce?
Salts called sulphates
What does hydrochloric acid produce?
Salts called chlorides
What does nitric acid produce?
Salts called nitrates
What are alkalis?
Soluble metal hydroxides (e.g sodium hydroxide)
What are bases?
Insoluble metal hydroxides and metal oxides
Acid + base?
Salt + water
Acid + metal carbonate?
Salt, water + carbon dioxide
When reacting an insoluble base with an acid what do you make?
A soluble salt
When reacting an insoluble base with an acid, what happens?
Excess solid is used then filtered off after the reaction
What do salt solutions that are crystallised produce?
Solid salts
What is a neutralisation reaction?
An acid + a base
What are 3 examples of bases?
Metal oxides, metal carbonates and metal hydroxides
Acid + metal oxide?
Salt + water
Acid + metal hydroxide?
Salt + water
Water + metal?
Metal hydroxide + hydrogen
