Q

How to carry out the making soluble salts practical using dilute sulfuric acid and copper oxide?

A

Start with a fixed amount of dilute sulfuric acid (limiting reactant).
Gently heat the acid until it is almost boiling.
Add small amount of copper oxide using a spatula
Stir using glass rod
Copper oxide will react and seem to disappear.
Solution will turn blue.
Continue adding until some copper oxide remains.
Use filter paper and funnel to filter solution into conical flask.
Place solution in evaporating basin. Heat until 1/2 remains.
Leave in cool place for 24hrs
