1
Q
Most common maternal cause of the Potter sequence
A
Teratogenic medications:
ACE inhibitors and ARBs disrupt fetal renal development by blocking the renin-angiotensin system, leading to fetal renal hypoplasia and reduced urine output. Since fetal urine is the main source of amniotic fluid, this causes oligohydramnios. Low amniotic fluid impairs lung development, causes external compression of the fetus, and restricts movement, resulting in pulmonary hypoplasia, limb deformities, and characteristic facial features—a constellation known as Potter sequence.
2
Q
What do fetal posterior urethral valve cause
A
Hydronephrosis, not Potter sequence
