What clinical tests can help detect amblyopia?

A

reduced VA, lack of stereopsis, contrast sensitivity, colour perception, pupil reactions (mild RAPD), accommodation/vergence responses, fixations and eye movements

How can you treat amblyopia?

A

Spectacles
patching
atropine drops
vision therapy

Patching vs atropine?

A

Patching makes them monocular when patch is on, it is easier for child to remove, its noticeable, can cause distress and can cause irritation and allergy.
Atropine allows child to be binocular. It can cause light sensitivity and allergy.
