  1. latent conflict - no actual conflict, potential
  2. perceived conflict - aware that goals are being thwarted, conflict escalates
  3. felt conflict - negative feelings, cooperation declines
  4. manifest conflict - decide how to deal/react, hostility
  5. conflict aftermath - affects way both parties perceive & respond to future episodes

  • collaboration - satisfy own goals & goals of other side, work together
  • accomodation - allow other party to acheive their goals
  • avoidance - refuse to acknowledge source of problem, acti as if there were no problem
  • competition - each party looks out for own interest
