Protecting the physical and mental well being of everyone in a work place
- Preventing accidents, injuries and illness
- Creating a safe environment for staff and public
- Making sure correct training, equipment and procedures are in place
In policing it also means making sure officers are safe whilst protecting others
What is Police (Health and Safety) Act 1997?
- Makes chief Constables and police forces legally responsible for officer safety
- Ensures police officers get similar health and safety protection as other workers
- Recognises that some risk in policing can’t be fully removed, but risks can be managed
