Latitude lines
A
- Run across the map
- Measured in degrees North and South of the equator
- They are parallel to each other
- Decrease in length towards the poles

- Run up and down the map
- Measured in degrees east and west of the Greenwich Meridian
- They meet at the poles
- They are all the same length

- Used in maps to show height
- Green is flat land
- Brown is hight land
- There always need to be a key

- Brown/ orange lines
- They join places which have the same height
- Heights are given in meters

- Exact height of a point on the map
- Shown as a black dot or triangular pillar
- Height in meters

- Side view of the landscape
- Maybe drawn by using the contours on the map

Uniform slope
- The contours decrease evenly
- Distance between the contour lines is the same all the way down the slope

Convex slope
- The contour lines are closer together at the bottom of the
- Height increase quickly and slope is steep

Concave slope
- The contour lines are further apart at the bottom of the slope
- Height increase slowly and slope is gentle
