Q

All my countries are in the wrong place. Can I fix this?

A

Yes. Geographical locations may have the same name, and this can be solved by:

  1. Adding the correct geographic field to the detail shelf.
  2. Tell Tableau the default location using Map > Edit Locations

Q

Can I use my own geographic fields?

A

Yes. If your data already has latitude and longitude data use that. If the latitude and longitude is in a separate location you can connect and blend the data, or import custom geo-coding.

Q

I don’t have latitude or longitude for my geographic fields. How do I add them to Tableau?

A

Countries, states, cities and zip code latitude and longitude are automatically generated by Tableau. However, for addresses you will need to geocode your data. This associates geographic coordinates to geographic information. Certain websites provide this service for a cost or free.
