A

bowles and gintis - argue theres lots of parallels between school and workplace
eg use of hierarchies, competition and fragmentation of the day, punctuality to work and school, obedience to teachers and boss

bowles and gintis argue the correspondence principle operates through the hidden curriculum and is how school prepares working class pupils as exploited workers of the future

A

willis - learning to labour - working class pupils receive working class jobs
there isnt a simple relationship between economy and education system - students are active participants and choose to fail. wc students are more likely to be negatively labelled
in his research ‘the lads’ formed their own friendship group with a counter-school culture going against the value of school and doing well. focused on having a laff to cope with boredom of school and work, instead of challenging it
‘the lads’ counterschool subculture ensured they were destined for unskilled work capitalism needs someone to perform.
