Purpose statement of Maslow’s hierarchy
Each step within the pyramid reflects a category of need: ranging from basic physiological needs at the bottom, to more complex needs of self-actualisation at the top. Needs at lower levels should be met in order to progress to the next level of the pyramid.
State the 5 levels of Maslow’s hierarchy
Physiological, Safety, Love/Belonging, Esteem, Self - Actualisation.
State the needs at the physiological level
Breathing, food, water, sex, sleep, homeostasis, excretion.
State the needs at the safety level
Security of body, of employment, of resources, of morality, of the family, of health, of property.
State the needs at the Love/Belonging level
Friendship, family, sexual intimacy
State the needs at the esteem level
Self - esteem, confidence, achievement, respect of and by others.
State the needs at the self - actualisation level
morality, creativity, spontaneity, problem solving, lack of prejudice, acceptance of facts.
