Mast cell degranulation Flashcards
1
Q
Histamine
A
Vasoactive amine that causes temporary, rapid constriction of the large blood vessels and the dilation of the postcapillary venules.
2
Q
H1 receptors:
A
Pro-inflammatory seen in smooth muscle cells of the bronchi - they induce bronchoconstriction.
3
Q
H2 receptors
A
Anti-inflammatory on the parietal cells of the stomach mucosa - they induce the secretion of gastric acid. Antihistamines work on these receptors.
4
Q
Leukotrienes
A
- Product of the arachidonic acid from mast cell membranes.
- Similar effects to histamine in later stages
5
Q
Prostaglandins
A
- Similar effects to leukotrienes.
- Induces pain.
6
Q
Platelet-activating factor:
A
- Similar effect to leukotrienes.
- Responsible for platelet activation.
